Chief Intercessor

MELISSA JOHNSON
A pastor carries spiritual weight, responsibility, and warfare that the congregation often never sees. Intercessors help carry that load.
• Exodus 17:8–13 — Moses’ hands had to be held up by Aaron and Hur for Israel to win. This is the picture of intercessors upholding the pastor.
• Hebrews 13:17 — Pastors “watch for souls,” meaning they are on the front lines. Intercessors guard the one who guards the flock.
• 2 Thessalonians 3:1 — Paul asked the church to “pray for us,” showing even apostles needed intercessory covering.
Intercessors pray and protect the pastor from, Spiritual attack, Discouragement, Weariness, Distraction, Sabotage, Witchcraft and demonic interference. A praying church strengthens the pastor’s voice, vision, and purpose. A ministry without intercessors is a ministry exposed and in a bad position. Intercession builds a spiritual wall around the work of God.
• Isaiah 59:19 — When the enemy comes in like a flood, intercession invites the Spirit of the Lord to lift up a standard.
• Matthew 18:18–20 — Agreement in prayer gives the church authority to bind and loose.
• Acts 4:31 — When the church prayed, the place shook, and they were filled with boldness. Intercessory prayer strengthens the ministry by, Protecting the atmosphere of worship, Covering leaders and volunteers, Breaking resistance to the vision, Opening doors for growth and expansion, Guarding the unity of the house, and Preparing hearts to receive the Word of God. A ministry with strong intercession becomes spiritually sharp, discerning, and unstoppable. In a generation filled with distraction, spiritual warfare, and moral decline, intercessors are more vital than ever. Intercessors are:
• Watchmen (Isaiah 62:6) — guarding the gates of the ministry
• Burden carriers (Galatians 6:2) — lifting the weight others cannot
• Atmosphere shifters — preparing the ground before the pastor speaks
• Spiritual protectors — covering the church from unseen attacks. Intercessors ensure the church does not just function but it flows. Intercessory prayer is not a side ministry. It is the heartbeat of the church. When intercessors rise, the pastor is strengthened, the ministry is protected, and the church becomes a place where heaven and earth meet.
